KALEIDOSCOPES:
All handcrafted stained
glass kaleidoscopes are fully stereo.
The giant kaleidoscopes
shown here and all the other ones are Multi-dimensional
having a unique and magical use of glass, mirror and 2-way mirror
!
The pattern is split again
into a separate image for each eye AND a common image, both images
are shared in 3 dimensional stereo. The common image maintains a unified
stereo perception, and the different image is unified in the brain
by the common geometry. You wont even notice that each eye is receiving
a unique image unless you inspect what each eye is actually seeing
because the unity in both aspects is seamless.
The wheels are set on lubricated
brass bearings and are composed of about 150 unique inlayed stained
glass pieces. All are built precisely with durability and structural
integrity in mind.
Two wheels are used to
combine primary colors into new colors and also to multiply the combinations
of patterns. The picture below shows how the left and right eyes receive
a different pattern.
The 2 basic binocular styles
are pictured above. The first diamond shaped configuration on the
left has a common image because there is reflective transparent glass
between the two triangles. The "M" shaped one on the right
has a common geometry. The diamond shaped one has both a common geometry
and a common image.
2 examples of other possible
symmetrical stereo configurations of mirror and glass are shown below:
WHY ARE THESE MAGIC
KALEIDOSCOPES?
An ordinary kaleidoscope
replicates a PATTERN in a 2 dimensional plane.
These kaleidoscopes replicate
a plane AND replicate an infinite number of Patterned PLANES 3 dimensionally
and in stereo. Simply put, the power of the light entering is able
to bounce the pattern around a "box of mirror" for at least
7 feet of reflected illusory space - in all directions as if it were
a box of mirror. The illusory space becomes completely full of colors
and multiple planes.
There are basic illustrations
of this further down the page.
The result is possibly
the most beautiful thing ever seen in the physical world.
Generally if more complex
mirror geometry such as pyramids, dodecahedrons, various polyhedron
and prisms are used the resulting space multiplies into incomprehensible
angles and becomes too bafflingly complex for the brain to understand.
It appears as chaos. However, the layers of flat planes in these kaleidoscopes
are easy to perceive and this is greatly enhancing instead of just
baffling.
The picture below is of
a crystal ball seated on a parabolic mirror in the base of a 1'X1'
pyramid of mirror. The colored pattern is of a "magic" circle.
The visible square is a viewpoint into the mirrored pyramid at the
pyramids apex. It is chaotic but interesting to look at. The cool
thing is that it has a two-way mirror face allowing a direct view
like this photo of it. However the two way mirror makes it look darker,
but you can get an idea of what an odd angled kaleidoscope such as
a pyramid would look like.

A lot of further experimentation
would need to be done to discover the secrets of how space is shaped
mathematically. It may be possible to construct mirrored prisms by
geometric formulas that reveal some unknown principle. If you are
interested in visual geometry and some math art please visit the unfinished
links page.
ILLUSTRATIONS
The following is a crude
visual illustration of the unique 3-D magic of these stereo kaleidoscopes.
In these kaleidoscopes
the DIFFERING MOTION of each the PLANES IN STERIO reveals the depth.
They are not identical planes because of the depth and because the
planes move differently relative to the depth, so keep in mind that
there is no actual stereo or motion in the dimensions illustrated
below.
This picture illustrates
layers of planes and how a plane can be transparent:

Triangle below is the appearance
of the area which will defined by 3 mirrors in a kaleidoscope:

Mirror and glass - the
triangle is shown mirror-mirroring. The green square shows glass-mirroring.

An attempt to describe
two different left/right stereo images and 3rd (4th) common image:

If the kaleidoscope is
one foot, the first stereo plane is 1 foot from the eye, and if it
is a prism, layered planes recede into the ether to about 7 feet or
more.
If it is a pyramid or some
other shape the planes will be on bizarre angles within bizarre angles.
The "standard"
1' binocular models (shown above) are available for about 250.00 US
dollars, not including ups shipping. Email for details. Floor stands
and Desk stands are also available.

CUSTOM
STAINED GLASS :

customer touching center.
Below, a custom
window for Mr. Martian:

All my stained glass is
custom designed and fabricated. I Will reply to any request for a
commissioned work.
A unique artwork can be
designed to your exact specifications, to general instructions, or
to no instructions other than a size as a commission to do art.
The actual cost will be
worked out when you decide what kind of glass you are going to use
and as other details emerge. My prices are reasonable and I work pretty
fast. I am an artist, not a business, so please ask for an estimate.
You'll get a quote before
anything is actually done. If agreed, based on prototypes or drawings
I will request 1/2 in advance AND a sum for (a verifiable) estimated
cost of materials. I try and minimize cost of materials, but there
may be permission asked to buy special materials when the need is
demonstrated.
Please see the Gallery
for a summary of some commissioned works and also some experiments.
